Join local author, Cathi Bond, as she discusses her novel Bessie, the first book in the "A Woman of Good Standing" trilogy.
Inspired by the stories told to her by her grandmother and aunts, Cathi's novel Bessie takes place 100 years ago in Waterloo Region and digs into what it was like to be a farmer’s wife and mother during The Great Depression and World War II. The novel's protagonist, Bessie Barnes, has to deal with more than putting food on the table and paying for gas - she is also equally determined to improve her social position and that of her family, during these frankly, horrible times. Add to this, a verboten yearning for a man that she should not want.
What woman doesn’t want to do better for herself and her family? What woman doesn’t want to improve the social standing of her family? What woman doesn't have an irrepressible strength inside of them - both 100 years ago and today?
