Let's Explore: Rainbow Trout & Their Watery World

at Lyndon Fish Hatcheries

For ages 4-12, with a caregiver.

Join us for a hands-on, pond-focused fishing adventure designed to spark curiosity and learning! This interactive program introduces kids to the world of rainbow trout and the pond environments they live in through movement, games, and real-life demonstrations.

Participants will learn the basics of fishing, including how to safely hold a rod and practice casting through fun, age-appropriate fishing games. We’ll explore the rainbow trout’s pond habitat, discuss why clean and healthy waterways matter, and walk through the full life cycle of a rainbow trout—from egg to adult fish.

To wrap up the experience, our staff will demonstrate how rainbow trout are responsibly cleaned and prepared, paired with a mini biology lesson highlighting trout anatomy and how each part helps the fish survive in its environment. This portion is educational, respectful, and presented in a way that helps kids understand where food comes from and the importance of conservation.

This program blends science, nature, and outdoor skills into an engaging learning experience that’s both fun and educational for young anglers and curious minds alike.
