Gardening 101 offers a brief introduction to the basics of planting and growing a vegetable garden. Features local gardeners and the expertise of Fred Lichti, and Chrsisy Arjune.
Designed for Tween (9-12), Teen (13-17) and Adult (18+) age.
Topics include location, soil, choosing vegetables and planting techniques. There will be a hands on demonstration of how to start bedding plants in late winter. Tomato seeds, soil and simple containers will be provided for each participant to practice starting tomato plants from seed.
Chrissy Arjune tends Crowsfoot Garden, her family's small scale market garden near Conestogo. She sells locally grown, handpicked, chemical-free veggies online and at the Elmira Market.
In their small backyard in Elmira, Fred Lichti grows vegetables in a raised bed garden and produces fruit on bushes, vines and fruit trees.
This program is a partnership offering from the Region of Waterloo Libraries and the Township of Woolwich Climate Action Group.
